About Maria Simeone

Maria Simeone has been an educator/musician for over 30 years. She has taught grades K-8 and special education. As an opera singer, she has performed as soloist in opera, musical theatre, and in recital. She has served as Director of Education (Opera Pacific) and Founding Director of the OperaConservatory (Orange County School of the Arts), as a Teaching Artist with Segerstrom Center for the Arts and Pacific Symphony, a Remo Team Member for community drumming, and Certified Trainer for Move to Learn in Sydney, Australia.

Maria has presented workshops in brain-centered arts integration for numerous organizations in the US and internationally. She has written hundreds of arts integrative lessons for Pacific Symphony’s Class Act program, Opera Pacific, and for numerous international guest artists at Segerstrom Center for the Arts. As Teaching Artist with the Segerstrom Center for the Arts, Maria has presented her highly successful BrainDance/Baile del Cerebro bilingual workshops to Alzheimer’s Orange County and the Amistad Medical Clinic. She is the creator of the Voice-Body Movement program Flexity Jig®, a Remo Inc. Affiliate Program, used world-wide.

Maria created, authored and performed the Interactive Musical Experience for Pacific Symphony’s acclaimed Class Act Schools program experienced by thousands of children, ages 5-10 and special education. Her original stories include: Ludwig and Lenny Go for a Walk (Beethoven), Aaron Paints a Picture (Copland), Sound in My Ear, What Do I Hear? (Saint-Saens), and The Gershwins Go to Harlem.

Maria Simeone passions are an outgrowth of her personal experiences with her two children, adopted from Eastern Europe and Eurasia, and their subsequent learning and behavioral challenges due to severe early trauma. Thus, Maria maintains a commitment to bringing the joy and healing power of brain-based movement, singing, and drumming to the most underserved and vulnerable populations, both locally and world-wide.
